Frequently Asked Questions

Useful Information

Some of the questions listed below are some of the most frequently asked by parents when first joining VAFC.

Of course! Everybody has to start somewhere. VAFC tries to balance teams so there is an even distribution between players with a higher level of soccer development, those who are new to the sport and those at all levels in between on each team.

Yes, the goal is to make sure the child has a positive experience. Movement to another age group does take getting approval from our Technical Staff and in some cases BC Soccer. A form is required to filled out and submitted to BC Soccer.
Play Up / Play Down : Policy
Play Up / Play Down : Form

Players wanting to play up an age group will require to get formal approval from VAFC’s Technical Director. VAFC has to abide by the rules as provided by BC Soccer, see below for additional information.

Yes, Douglas Park is located at Douglas Park Community Centre. VAFC uses Douglas Park as our ‘Home’ park for Saturday games. Other fields used by VAFC is Clinton Park, Trout Lake (John Hendry Park) and Quilchena Park.

If confused use the birth year of your child to locate the right age group. When you see the letter ‘U’ before a number, it refers to ‘Under’. When you come across U9 (or any other number) it refers to ‘Under 9’. Only players that are 8 years of age or younger qualify to be in the ‘U9’ age group.

At house U8 – 10 we aim to balance all teams, but moving into U11, players are further evaluated and tiered into levels of play for Division 1, 2 and 3.

Players that are 10 years of age (U11), players move to a tiered approach; teams are based on ability, so players at a similar level of development, skill and commitment play together. Not all players develop at the same rate, so our boys’ and girls’ programs offer different levels of play.

On both of the boys’ and girls’ sides we have Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3. Divisions 1 and 2 play in the BCCSL (British Columbia Coastal Soccer League) and Division 3 teams in VYSA (Vancouver Youth Soccer Association).
