Development

Player : Goalkeeper : Team

VAFC offers a variety of programs including team programs, training programs and camps that are appropriate to all ages and levels, with the following goal that each player has a positive experience.

Participants train once a week and will participate with players of similar skill and ability. The program will allow players to learn skills, and improve their technical/tactical abilities in a progressive program.

Individual Player Development (U4-U7 / U11 – U18)
VAFC Coaching Staff will make sure that all players receive proper age and/or ability specific training within individual skill development and small sided games.  The overall objective of VAFC’s Individual Player Development program is to create an environment for every player that matches his/her individual playing needs and abilities. To do this, VAFC will be following CSA’s Long Term Player Development (LTPD).

In line with Canada Soccer’s best principles in player development, VAFC has created a dedicated player program for players in the U8 – U10 age group. Players will participate in 2 training sessions per week and have multiple mini game sessions on either a Saturday morning (Boys) or Sunday morning (Girls).

All sessions will have a station-based approach, where players will rotate through a variety of fundamental movement skills and fundamental soccer skills:
* Ball Mastery
* Dribbling 1v 1
* Passing and Receiving
* Shooting and striking the ball

All sessions will be run by VAFC professional coaching staff.

New Player Placement

Players New to VAFC – U11 to U18 Teams

VAFC welcomes all New Players!

Teams at the U11/U12 age groups play 8 aside games on half fields.  The U13’s play 9 aside on half fields or slightly larger.   All U14 to U18 teams play full sided games (11 vs 11). Players are grouped by ability and our Division 1 and 2 teams are formed to play in one of several leagues involving teams from other regions.  The season starts in September and ends late February and/or early March.

Division 3 teams (DIV3) a program for new to  developing players with a focus on skill development and teamwork.

Teams are managed by our volunteer coaches with support by our technical staff,  focused on providing a fun, safe and structured environment while competing in the BC Coastal Soccer League. The program provides an opportunity for players to engage in physical activity, spend time with friends, and enjoy developing and learning in a balanced environment.  Opportunities to play at higher level, within the year, are available under VAFC’s Fluid Roster program and can be supplemented by various VAFC training academy options. Please contact George (Operations Manager) for more information.

Evaluations are for players that have never played (or have not played in several years) with Vancouver Athletic FC.
New Player Evaluation Registration Page: Click Here

VAFC Players that played in the 2023/24 Fall/Winter soccer season are not required to attend an evaluation.
VAFC players are assessed by both your Team Head Coach and VAFC Technical Staff.

Divisional Teams

U11 – U18 Age Groups

Playing the game should be fun, and promote a
lifelong love of the soccer.

Starting at U11, girls play on Sundays and boys continue to play on Saturdays. The level of play (Division 1 / 2 / 3) will determine which league your child’s team will play in, and how much travel is involved.

Teams practice on turf or gravel; coaches and parents will have some input on practice day and time. This is always a difficult topic as with the rest of Vancouver, there is never enough turf time to take care of everyone’s requirements. This year an attempt will be made to have all teams of the same age practice at the same time. Your team’s coach will let you know when and where your team’s practices are.

All teams (U11 – U18 Boys & Girls) play in the BC Coastal Soccer League. Most games will be played against teams from other clubs from our local or neighbouring regions. Boy Divisional teams play on Saturday and Girl Divisional teams play on Sunday.

Teams are formed by the Team’s Head Coach and VAFC’s technical staff. All VAFC players receive an in season assessment and are not required to attend an open evaluation. Players will be emailed a roster spot for the next Fall Soccer Season.
