History

Vancouver Athletic FC was founded in 2013 as the amalgamation of three youth soccer clubs: Douglas Park Soccer Club, Grandview Legion Football Club (founded 1955), and Vancouver Girls Soccer Club.

While each community club was originally established out of a desire to provide more opportunity to play soccer and/or to serve different groups, the resulting larger youth soccer club unites the values and efforts. Vancouver Athletic Football Club now has over 2,200 players ranging in age from five to eighteen, serving the soccer needs of Central and East Vancouver.

While the names Douglas Park, Grandview House League, and Vancouver Girls Soccer are still in existence as House League team chapters, all of the groups play under the ‘parent’ VAFC banner.

There are now four House League teams for younger age groups up to U10:

  1. Vancouver Girls Soccer Association (VGSA)
  2. Grandview House League
  3. Douglas Park Boys
  4. Douglas Park Girls

The VAFC banner also includes affiliated – but financially separate – adult teams playing in the VMSL and MWSL.

Vancouver Girls Soccer Club

Vancouver Girls Soccer Club

VGSC was created out of a desire to provide more opportunities for girls in the City of Vancouver to play soccer at levels suitable for their abilities, from recreational to competitive. In 2011 VGSC and Grandview Legion FC merged to become a larger club to better support youth soccer in Vancouver. The name VGSC was retained, along with the tradition behind it, to help encourage more girls into soccer.
Douglas Park Soccer Club

Douglas Park Soccer Club

Douglas Park Soccer Club has strong community ties and support that has grown considerably over the last ten years. DPSC girls’ teams make up one third of the players here, having increased from zero to 20 teams since 2001, with numbers growing every year. Douglas Park Soccer encourages young members in the community as well as older motivated players to join the Club.
Grandview Legion Football Club

Grandview Legion Football Club

Grandview Legion Football Club has a 55-year history in East Vancouver, offering an outstanding soccer experience for boys and girls from 4 to 17 years old. Grandview offers House League soccer for players ages 4 to 9; ‘U Team’ play for players aged 10 to 17; as well as player, coach and referee development.

Killarney FC

Killarney FC

A long-standing adult men’s club with no affiliation to the Killarney Youth Soccer Association, the teams under this umbrella have joined VAFC to provide opportunities for our graduating youth players to continue their playing careers as adults. Many of the players also serve as youth coaches and referees, mentoring the next generation of players.

VAFC follows BC Soccer’s requirements in accordance with its Club Charter Pathway. For more information on what that entails, please see the corresponding page on BC Soccer’s website.
