VAFC Coach Certification & Clinics
What about ongoing coach education?
Canada Soccer strongly encourages all coaches to complete ongoing coach education modules as part of the coaching pathway and professional development.
All four of the CSA / BCSA’s community stream coaching courses are mandatory for the age group listed. As such, VAFC will run each of the following courses every season to ensure our coaches are compliant. At the start of each season Course details and registration instructions will be emailed to appointed coaches once finalized.
Active Start Workshop
Designed for coaches of U4 to U6 players and consists of completing 1.5 hours of online training followed by a 2-hour Practical On-Field Workshop. No pre-requisites required.
FUNdamentals Workshop
Designed for coaches of Boys U6-U9 and Girls U6-U8. It consists of completing 1.5 hours of online training followed by a 3-hour Practical On-Field Workshop.
Learn to Train Workshop
Designed for coaches of Boys U9-U12 and Girls U8-U11. It consists of completing 2 hours of online training followed by a 4-hour Practical On-Field Workshop.
Soccer for Life Workshop
Designed for coaches of Boys U13+ and Girls U12+. It consists of completing 2 hours of online training followed by a 4-hour Practical On-Field Workshop.
Coaches are also expected to complete the following:
NCCP Make Ethical Decisions Workshop and Online Evaluation; the NCCP Making Headway Concussion Awareness Workshop, the NCCP Online Emergency Action Plan Workshop and the Respect in Sport Activity Leader Course. No pre-requisites required.
Respect in Sport
BC Soccer is pleased to partner with The Respect Group to support all the online education and certification program they have developed to support and create safe environments that are free from harassment, bullying and abuse.
Coaches are encouraged to take the Respect in Sport to Activity Leader E-learning Education Program.
The fee for this user friendly 2.5-hour online course is $30, collected by registration and payment process is done through Respect in Sport.
IMPORTANT! BC Soccer is able to track your certification levels in our course management system called Coach Centre. To ensure that we do this accurately for you, please follow these steps:
- Create a Coach Centre account by clicking here. If you already have one, please proceed to step 2.
- You must* use the same Coach Centre full name and email address to register for the online theory (PART 1). Email VAFC House Coordinator to get a payment code and then register here.
- Once you complete the online theory course then you can register for the on-field practical workshop (PART 2) to complete your full certification level email VAFC House Coordinator for ‘Private Course Code‘ and then you can register by clicking here.
*By using your Coach Centre name and email (exact match) to register for the online theory, it will ensure that your credit will be automatically applied to your account. It may take 7-10 days to apply the online theory course credit to your Coach Centre account from the time you have completed it, so don’t delay. You will need this credit as a prerequisite in the system before you can register for the on-field component, so we recommend completing the online theory well in advance”.
IMPORTANT:
All coaches are required to complete STEP ONE (online course) before going to STEP TWO (on-field workshop).
PART 1: How do I register for a Grassroots Coach Education Program online course?
Contact VAFC (housecoordinator@vafc.ca) and ask for a pre-purchased keycode for you to access the online modules and you can enter it here to get started. In your email please indicate your choice of online theory (Active Start, Fundamentals, Learn to Train or Soccer for Life). Once you have completed the online theory (PART 1) you can register for the on-field practical workshop (PART 2) to complete your full certification for the respective course level.
PART 2: How do I register for the on-field practical workshop component?
VAFC is hosting several on-field practical workshops these next several months. Please check the list of clinics listed below for dates and times. Make sure that you have completed the online theory first as this is the prerequisite. Once registration is open for an on-field practical workshop, you can login (or create a login) at www.coachcentre.ca to register.
Ask VAFC (housecoordinator@vafc.ca) for the ‘Private Code’ which is only given out to VAFC coaches looking to complete their online certification through our club. Please email VAFC your full name, the club team you are associated with and the online workshop (Active Start, Fundamentals, Learn to Train, Soccer for Life) you would like to participate in.
VAFC Coach Certification On-Field Workshops
Once you have completed the online theory, Canada Soccer will notify BC Soccer to apply the course credit to your account on BC Soccer’s certification management system called Coach Centre. Once this is done, you will be able to register for an upcoming On-Field Practical Workshop (Part 2) to complete your full certification at this level. See below for the clinic that applies to your age group that your coaching this upcoming season.
How to Pay:
There is no cost for VAFC coaches. Please contact Devon Dooling (VAFC House Coordinator) housecoordinator@vafc.ca who will provide a private code to register.
