PARENT/GUARDIAN CODE OF CONDUCT AGREEMENT

As the parent or guardian of a soccer player at VAFC, you have a responsibility to:

  1. Remember that your child is involved in organized soccer primarily for their enjoyment, not for yours.
  2. Encourage your child and other participants in VAFC soccer to abide by the rules and, in general, emphasize sportsmanship ahead of winning.
  3. Teach your child that an honest effort is as important as a victory so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment. Encourage your child to play fairly and to the best of his or her ability and, when he or she does so, provide praise and encouragement regardless of the results of those efforts.
  4. Turn defeat to victory by helping your child to work toward skill improvement and good sportsmanship. Never ridicule or yell at your child for making a mistake.
  5. Explain the Player Code of Conduct to your child and encourage him or her to live up to it.
  6. Encourage your child to respect his or her teammates, coaches, team manager, referees, and opponents.
  7. Show respect and appreciation for the volunteer coaches and other team and club officials who give their time to provide sport activities for your child. Refrain from publicly questioning the judgment of team or club officials and never question their honesty or integrity.
  8. Encourage your child to refrain from dangerous play during games and practices.
  9. Cheer for your child, your team and your club but at all times refrain from coaching from the sidelines, unless specifically tasked with doing so by a coach or team official.
  10. Refrain from criticizing coaches, referees, or opponents at any time and especially in the presence of your child or other children. Constructive criticism, when you feel it is necessary, should be directed towards your team’s coaches or other officials in private.
  11. When able, assist with tasks as requested by team officials (e.g., putting nets away after games, providing half[time snacks, etc).
  12. Ensure prompt attendance at games and practices (for both drop[off and pick[up) and, if absences are unavoidable, to give adequate notice to team officials.
  13. Complete and update (as necessary) your child’s medical information sheet and ensure team officials are aware of any medical or other issues faced by your child.
