SOAR Knee Injury Survey

UBC Knee Injury Recovery Program For Young Athletes

A team of patients, healthcare providers and researchers at Arthritis Research Canada and the University of British Columbia have developed a new treatment to decrease the risk of osteoarthritis following a knee injury.

Stop OsteoARitis (SOAR) is a new online exercise-based program to help you boost your recovery from a knee injury and reduce your risk for osteoarthritis.

The Goals of SOAR are to:

  1. Teach you strategies to reduce your risk for knee osteoarthritis and help you apply them
  2. Optimize your knee muscle strength
  3. Help you to meet recommended levels of physical activity

They are looking for ~14-16 people that would be interested in participating in a 4-week version of the Stop OsteoARthritis (SOAR) program. The SOAR program aims to help people take control of their knee health by working 1 on 1 with a physiotherapist. People living anywhere in BC with internet access, between the ages of 16-55 who have had a sport-related knee injury that resulted in any time loss from sport should be eligible.

Basically, the SOAR program involves:

  • an online knee camp to learn about knee osteoarthritis and how to improve your knee health
  • one-to-one virtual physiotherapy assessment and weekly follow-ups
  • 4 weeks of prescribed exercises for your knee injury
  • weekly online group exercise classes led by a physiotherapist

There is no cost to participate and everyone will get a FREE Fitbit Inspire activity tracker and resistance cord set that is yours to keep after the study.
