VAFC Statement on First National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Sep 30, 2021

September 30, 2021 marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. It is also Orange Shirt Day.

This new day honours the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families and communities. September 30 is also Orange Shirt Day, an Indigenous-led grassroots commemoration of the children who survived Indian Residential Schools and remembers those who did not. On September 30, we encourage all community members to wear orange to reflect on the tragic legacy of residential schools, and to honour the thousands of Survivors.

VAFC has cancelled all regular team practices and will not be scheduling any additional day programming on Thursday, September 30th. We hope this provides our players, their families, and volunteer officials the opportunity to reflect on this first ever commemoration and learn more.
